Graphics: The first thing you should notice about Fox is that he very hairy, this goes for all the furry creatures in this game, the hair effect was done to perfection. For those who are more scaley, the scales of those creatures were also very well done. Indvidual Grass blades can be seen popping out of the ground and even the water is very life like, you can easily tell that by looking into the water and seeing fish swiming under it, magnificant. When flying in your Arwing, the areas you fly in are also very detailed, the only exception is the lasers and explosions, when you fire a Bomb, you would expect a big explosion, but you are left with a couple of red rings coming out of it, effective but no detail put into it. When in a snow area, the snow doesnt feel that much as snow, more as white dirt, but there is only one or two areas with snow in it so that wasnt a big deal.
Sound: Ill start with music, for those who played the previous starfox games will notice alot of old favorties from the past that have been slightly remixed. The other songs put into this game fit the background nicely. The SFX are even better, when in combat, the staff SFX is always on key when it strikes an enemy, which is really impressive with all the fast combos you can perform. You are able to hear enemies grunt or chuckle when close by to help with the realism of the game. Now what is the best about sound is the Voice Overs, they are done to perfection, not only are the actors that play the role perfect for them, but the lip movement is always on key to what the person is saying.
Control: For those who have played Ocarina of Time will notice a almost duplicate feel of controls. The camera follows behind fox very nicely and when you do need it directly behind him, a simple press of the L button will go straight behind him, if you continue to hold on to the L button it will stay behind fox and allow him to Sidestep, which is very useful in mazes to see around the corner. This games uses an auto lock on function instead of a manual lock on, if you have your staff out, you will lock on to the nearest enemy, however you can not lock on to enemies that are in the air, which can be a let down if they are trying to go kamikazi on you. When locked on to an enemy, no other enemy will attack you, which can lead to a flaw in the game, if you manage to get another enemy inbetween you and the locked on the enemy, you can continually strike at the enemy inbetween and he wont fight back or block. You are only allowed to hot key one item or skill to your Y button which can make things a little difficult, say you might need this skill to open up doors when this other skill kills this enemy only and when those enemies are all around the way out the door, it might get a little frustrating switching from skill to skill. The biggest problems with controls is aiming, when trying to aim projectile weapons the crosshair is very hard to control and has a look spring to it and honestly it couldve gone without it, because of this problem you will find yourself trying to line up your shot for awhile, this is especially hard when trying to shoot down air borne enemies. The arwing stages are not that much better, the feel of the arwing is good, but trying to hit an enemy is quite a chore, with no lock on feature, it is very difficult to know where to shoot bombs.
Gameplay: This game by my calculations will give an average player about 25-30 hours of gameplay which is very decent. The storyline is very original and has a few plot twists near the end. The begining of the game when you play as krystal can seem long and boring, but once you get to fox's part of the game things really start tp pick up, you are given many tasks that can be quite fun, and if you are ever in a jam and dont know where to got, you can call slippy to give you some helpful hints, peppy provides the map, and General pepper gives you reports of what skills and items you have. This is not a collect-a-fest as some have put it, far from it. This is a game like OoT which you basically go to dungeon to dungeon, but with more added inbetween each dungeon such as side-quests. This game is filled with several puzzles that will increase in difficulty or logically, or maybe both. Your dino friend, prince tricky, is used alot through the game, he can be used to search for hidden items, sit on switchs, breathe fire, and you can even play fetch with him to increase how strong he is. In order to be able to use Tricky's moves you need to feed him blue fungus which are nicely spread through the world. There is a huge variety of items in this game which will help you progress through the game, some you will use alot and others you will use at one part in the game. Combat is a really fun part of this game, holding a control stick in a different dirrection and/or pressing differnet buttons will have fox execute fun combos in this game which will make you want to take on an entire army by yourself. For those of you that is wondering why fox doesnt have his blaster with him, pepper puts as we are trying to save this planet, not blow it up. There are many cut-scenes in this game but they are nicely spreaded throughout it so it wont hamper gameplay, the sad thing is that you cant skip them so at some parts in the game it can get very repetitive. The enemies while in combat are quite smart and will only get smarter as you got through the game, they will block more and attack faster, so it will be difficult trying to get a hit in. The arwing stages are short and there arent alot of them, that is a good thing, they dont feel like the good old starfox games and you will find yourself happy to get done with them.
Replay Value: Not a whole lot of that here, once you beat it, its beat. It is a pretty much straight forword game, unlike in OoT where you have more freedom. You do get scores at the End of every Arwing stage and it goes into a top 5 and those stages can be replayed as much as you want, plus there are other scenes in the game you can go back to if you really liked that part.
Im going to use the method of scoring as the way IGN does it
Graphics:9.5
Sound:10
Control:8
